Computer Skills Unit


 

 

King Abdulaziz University is looking forward to implementing its mission to be at the forefront of the world’s most esteemed universities in its educational programs, researches, in the level of its graduates and in its interaction with the community.

To achieve this mission, the Administration of the University has made all the efforts to develop its academic curricula so that skillful outputs, which are in compliance with the labor market, are obtained.

King Abdulaziz Univeristy has made the resolution to teach the students of the university the course of “Computer Skills”. This course will be a general compulsory course. It will be an essential course that makes the university objectives come true. Thus, the Univeristy Administration has made the resolution also to establish a Supervisory Unit that will be responsible for teaching this course, managing and fulfilling its requirements.

This Supervisory Unit is subordinated to the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology. This unit should be in charge of supervising the process of teaching this course to all university students. It should make sure that all the requirements and logistics are provided. It should follow-up, develop and continuously evaluate the course to make sure that it consistently achieves the targeted goals.

The Duties and the Responsibilities of the Supervisory Unit:

1.    Promoting the goals of the university through teaching this course (Computer Skills) since it is considered as part of the university requirements.

2.    Making sure that the academic members, instructors, and collaborators are qualified enough to teach this course so that achieving its objectives.

3.    The commitment of the instructors of this course to comply with the university’s criteria for this course including the description of the course, targeted goals, content and teaching methods.

4.    Developing and improving effective methods of presenting this course to ensure quality and utilization.

5.    Surveying the needs of the faculties and the number of divisions and establishing new divisions in case of need.

6.    Nominating academic members, instructors and collaborators who are in charge of teaching the course every semester to the Supervisory Committee so that they can be approved.

7.    Making sure that the approved description of the course is being applied precisely.

8.     Providing support to the academic members in charge of teaching this course to apply the latest tools and techniques in teaching this course so that accomplishing the targeted objectives of the course.

9.    Providing administrative assistance to the instructors in charge of teaching this course.

10.  Identifying the required technical equipments and human resources to achieve the tasks assigned to the unit.

11.  Submitting a quarterly report to the President of the University on the achievements of the Unit, its performance and activities. It should include also an analysis of the students’ results and the curriculum.

12.  Implementing the recommendations of the Supervisory Committee.


The Supervisory Committee:

 

This committee will be in charge of supervising the Unit which is responsible for teaching the course.

The committee is established by the President of the University, according to nomination from the Vice President for Development, for a one-year period of time that can be renewed. The committee should submit recommendations to the President of the University for Approval.

 

 

The Duties and Responsibilities of the Supervisory Committee:

 

1.    Approving the candidates for teaching the course every semester.

2.    Approving the academic content of the course at the beginning of every semester according to the approved criteria of the University Administration.

3.    Scheduling the dates of the periodic tests and quizzes.

4.    Approving the mechanism of the evaluation methods for the course questions, grading and approving the annual plan of the Computer Skills Unit.

 

 

The Director of the Unit:

The director of the unit is selected by the President of the University from among the members of the university. He will be administratively linked to the President of the Supervisory Committee.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Director of the Unit:

1.    The Director of the Unit will be responsible for the implementation of the strategies adopted by the Supervisory Committee and the University’s Administration.

2.    Administrating the financial, managerial and technical issues of the Unit.

3.    Preparing an operational plan for the Unit and following-up its implementation with the concerned parties.

4.    Following the developments and achievements of the unit to reach the targeted objectives.

5.    Contacting directly with the concerned parties inside the university within his given authorities only.

6.    Submitting a periodical report to the President of the Univeristy on the progress in the Unit every semester through the Director of the Supervisory Committee.

7.    Reporting the required equipments that are needed to implement the tasks of the Unit to the President of the Supervisory Committee.

8.    Participating in scheduling the test timetables.

9.    Approving the mechanisms and latest evaluation methods in assessing the Course of Computer Skills.

10.  Taking advantage of the facilities provided by some different factors to set out the Unit.

 

 

 The Female Deputy Director of the Unit:

The Female Deputy Director is chosen from among the members of the university. She will be administratively linked to the Director of the Unit.


Duties and responsibilities of the Female Deputy Director of the Unit:

1.    Assisting the Director of the Unit in implementing the tasks entrusted to him in the Female Section.

2.    Supervising all the matters of the Unit in the Female Section.

3.    Co-ordinating with the concerned faculties and deanships in implementing the tasks entrusted to her
